Kenyan Ambassador to South Sudan in Juba on Thursday said the embassy was still investigating media reports that 100 South Sudanese including children were arrested and detained by Kenyan Police in Nakuru town.
Ambassador Cleland Leshore told CRN in a telephone interview that they were in touch with their foreign ministry and that the embassy had no clear picture of what really happened, but that they were yet to establish facts from police.
Ambassador Leshore denied Citizen Newspaper’s report on Thursday that he was summoned by Juba foreign ministry on Wednesday over detention and deportation of South Sudanese in Nakuru, Kenya.
He said Minister Barnaba Marial Benjamin gave him a friendly call to discuss the concern, adding that Nairobi is in very close working relations with Juba government.
The diplomat explained that summon of an ambassador should be in a written letter not usual friendly interaction.
Ambassador Leshore told Juba foreign ministry that 90 percent of South Sudanese were born in Kenya, implying that they are Kenyan citizens.
He said his government at home treat South Sudanese students as nationals.
The diplomat admitted that Kenyan government was launching serious security operations against Somali terrorists’ group, Al Shabaab.
