United Nations Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS disclosed a plan to inaugurate new Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs’ camp near UN House on Wednesday to relocate congested IDPs as cholera engulfs Juba.
UNMISS Spokesperson Ariane Quentier told the media on Tuesday that the Mission managed to relocate 1,400 IDPs from Juba Na Bari base to UN House base at the foot of Körök hill for better protection against water borne diseases.
She commended the government for providing construction land and China for funding the construction to shelter thousands of IDPs in Juba.
Ms Quentier lamented that IDPs’ condition in Malakal was extremely difficult to handle due to insecurity.
She described the situation in Malakal as too volatile to work in or plan something in.
Ms Quentier said more than 20 thousand IDPs crammed in Malakal UNMISS base are expected to be relocated to new site for better conditions at the end of June.
