The Norwegian Ambassador to South Sudan on Tuesday disclosed that her country will host South Sudan humanitarian pledging conference on May 20 in Oslo.
Ambassador Hanne Marie Kaarstad told Bakhita Radio that the conference would also discuss how to address the humanitarian crisis and sensitizing the international community on impacts of the conflict in the country.
She said Norwegian Foreign Minister B√∏rge Brende and UN Undersecretary for Humanitarian Affairs Valerie Amos are expected to co-chair the conference.
The Ambassador appealed to donor countries to extend their helping hands during the conference, calling on humanitarian agencies to act now before the situation worsens.
She expressed Norwegian commitment to continue supporting South Sudan population both in happy and difficult times.
Ambassador Kaarstad welcomed the signed agreement between President Kiir and Dr Reik Marchar, describing it a turning point to improve access to humanitarian aid.
She called on the two warring parties to stop fighting for people’s lives to return to normal in the country.
South Sudan conflict affected an estimated 4.9 million people and more than 1.2 million people fled from their homes.
