African Union or AU Commission Chairperson on Monday congratulated South Africans for peaceful and successful elections of May 7.
In a statement, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma also congratulated South African President Jacob Zuma for his party’s victory in the elections.
She encouraged the ruling party and the opposition parties to continue working together for the interest of the diverse people of South Africa to preserve peace and deepen the country’s 20 years of democracy and prosperity.
The statement added that with a voter turnout of 73.4 percent Former Ghanaian President John Kufour and now Head of the AU Election Observation Mission to South Africa commended South Africans for the peaceful and successful conduct of the elections.
Mr Kufour said ‘South Africa set the bar very high for their African peers.’
The former Ghanaian President made the media statement during the presentation of the Elections Observer Mission’s preliminary report.
South Africa’s winning party, African National Congress, ANC is currently resolving SPLM party crisis in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia through the party Deputy President Cyril Ramaposa.
