Kajo-Keji County authorities on Sunday banned bars’ operation during working hours especially during the rainy season.
County Legislative Assembly Chairperson Patrick Wolyan on Monday told CRN in a telephone interview that the by-law orders opening of bars from 4:00 to 10:00 PM and banned brewing of local alcohol along roadsides or under trees except authorized places.
He advised citizens to abide by the orders or face charges.
The Chairperson said the local orders nullified drug abuse locally known as Marungi, opium and shisha.
He added that the law restricts opening of discos at inappropriate time except on Saturdays and public holidays.
Mr Wolyan wondered what terrible impact would emerge if disco operation on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays would continue against development as youths engage in discos.
He argued that leisure time was too much and that it would result to no production in the county because citizens busy themselves in drinking and dancing instead of economic activities including cultivation.
The councillor revealed that discos goers in Kajo-Keji include married women dancing with babies at their backs.
He added that in some instances dancing mothers take along baby sitters which he said ‘constitutes child rights’ violation’.
Mr Wolyan lamented that rampant discos are increasing school dropout rates, immorality and heavy alcoholic consumption.
