Civil Society activists launch walk to peace campaign on May 9

Community Empowerment for Progress Organizations, CEPO and National Platform for Peace and Reconciliation leaders launched Walk to Peace campaign to be demonstrated on the ninth of every month, beginning May 9 today.
 
CEPO Executive Director Edmond Yakani said the ninth of every month remains historic in South Sudan, Bakhita Radio reported.
 
He called on masses all over the country to honour the ninth day of every month; saying June 9th would be marked with wearing white ribbons and marching in streets, demanding for peace.
 
NPPR leader Chuol Rambang said the Platform would work with civil societies to mobilize masses to demonstrate for peace in even in the battlefields.
 
He added that it is the Platform’s firm prayer that President Kiir and Dr Machar direct meeting ushers peace to the devastated nation.
 
The activists made the statements in a prayer sermon to bless the direct meeting of rival political war lords.
