Western Bahr El Ghazal State Governor on Monday dismissed reports of any SPLA defection in relation to Mapel incident.
Rizik Zachariah Hassan said he was still in touch with the alleged SPLA defectors of Nuer origin previously stationed in Mapel and Girinti Military Barracks, saying they ran away for safety in the bush due to fear and rumours, Voice of Hope reported.
He cautioned Western Bahr El Ghazal University students against unnecessary fear and panic, assuring them of security stability.
Mr. Zachariah promised to form a committee that would convince students out of the UNMISS compound and the soldiers who fled for their lives.
He advised students to concentrate in studies and avoid unnecessary rumour mongering that creates fear among residents.
Western Bahr El Ghazal University Acting Vice chancellor Professor Abraham Mathok promised to deal with drunken students who create havoc in the campus.
He asked for deployment of literate security personnel to ensure visitors are checked to minimise infiltration of wrong elements.
120 SPLA soldiers made up of 60 captains and 60 ordinary ones from Division 5 in Wau reportedly defected on Sunday Morning with three brigadiers.
Over 50 students from Nuer community sought refuge in Wau UNMISS base when the news of Mapel incident broke out.
