International Monetary Fund, IMF in its April 2014 Spring Meetings highlighted rising income inequality between the poor and the rich in many countries in the world.

IMF economist Benedict Clements authored a report about the rise in income inequality, calling on governments to redistribute resources as a great public demand to address inequality especially in countries affected by economical crisis.

He added that general surveys revealed that public opinion suggested willingness of citizens in supporting active government roles in addressing inequality through paying taxes.

Mr Clements pointed out that addressing inequality means making benefits of resources universal.

The economist recommended that governments to use effective fiscal policy to address income inequality across the world.

Mr Clements cited Latin America as one of many countries using fiscal policy as a powerful tool in addressing income inequality.

He hailed the average balance of income tax and spending policies including subsidies in Latin America that could be applied in other countries.

The economist said addressing income inequality means boosting balanced economic growth and development through raising revenues from the rich to benefit the poor.
