United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in South Sudan cried out about several checkpoints planted on roads to conflict affected areas, hindering humanitarian operation.
Toby Lanzer told the press in Juba that checkpoint-operators tax aid workers as opposed to international humanitarian law, Bakhita Radio reported.
The move hinders World Food Program from supplying relief items by road to various places
He said the government opened new corridors from Gambella in Ethiopia to South Sudan and that soon one would open from Sudan to Renk and Malakal.
Mr Lanzer said the World Food Program airdrops food aid to various locations in the country including Maban County which hosts 120 thousand Sudanese refugees.
The Humanitarian Coordinator observes that if the from Sudan corridor opens, there will be possibility to preposition supplies and make operation easier.
