National Education Crisis Management Committee on Thursday verified that schools’ enrolment in Kajo-Keji County of Central Equatoria State exceed normal class requirement by 50 percent.
County Press Secretary Amule Charles told CRN in a telephone interview that the committee discovered overcrowding of learners in urban primary schools including Wudu, Ebenezer, Mere and Löikor.
He said the Committee team leader George Mogga Benjamin said influx of IDPs increased class enrolment from the maximum requirement of 50 to over 100 pupils per a class, posing inconvenience to teaching, learning process.
The Press Secretary said Commissioner Henry Kala Sabuni decried the congestion of learners in schools, urging the committee to render its report effectively for immediate action.
He added that Commissioner Kala criticized the education directorate for letting the Kajo-Keji lose its glory of academic excellence.
The Press Secretary reported that Commissioner Kala called on the Education directorate to intensify supervision of activities to recover the lost academic glory.
The committee assessment followed earlier media reports about overcrowding of learners due to huge influx of IDPs caused by ongoing political crisis in the country.
