African Union or AU Peace and Security Commission Chairperson welcomed the launch of SPLM Intra-Party Dialogue on Saturday in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia by the IGAD Chairperson.

In a statement Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma commended the Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front or EPRDF and the African National Congress or ANC for accepting to facilitate the forum.

She underlined that the process would enable the SPLM leadership to examine in-depth the underlying causes of the crisis facing the party and the whole country.

Dr Dlamini urged all stakeholders to take advantage of the intra-party talks expected to run concurrently with the IGAD-led mediation efforts to advance the cause for peace, security, stability, reconciliation and good governance in South Sudan.

She reiterated AU’s deep concern at the continued conflict in South Sudan and the untold suffering inflicted on the civilian population.

The Chairperson appealed to the warring parties to put first national interest other than any other personal consideration.
