Civil Society Organizations for Lasting Peace in South Sudan demanded the government and the SPLM/A in Opposition to apologize to citizens for loss of lives, sufferings and destruction of property caused by violence since mid December 2013.

In a statement issued earlier this week, the society asked South Sudan Human Rights Commission to quickly audit the violence and present findings to the parliament and the public for justice to take course.

They recommended that Government and SPLM/A in Opposition to agree on framework of a locally instituted, independent and competent tribunal to try perpetuators and suspects of crimes committed during the conflict.

The Organizations urged both parties to observe, respect and implement the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement.

They demanded inclusion of civil society organisations in monitoring of the agreements.

The statement urged government to take necessary efforts to begin national healing, peace and reconciliation process from the grassroots.
