United Nations Children’s agency or UNICEF is warning of a humanitarian crisis unfolding outside Bor town in Jonglei state and other towns in the country.

In statement issued on Monday UNICEF reported an outbreak of measles among children and killed at least 30 of them at UNMISS camp.

UNICEF Emergency Programmes Deputy Director Dermot Carty said if children were not reached with humanitarian aid, the risk of dying in appalling conditions would increase dramatically.

The official said UNICEF rushed in supplies overnight to vaccinate four thousand children against measles and polio and supplied Vitamin A to boost children’s immune system.

The Deputy Director said few humanitarian agencies were able to reach the population of Bor who fled the fighting to seek protection, added the statement.

The official pointed out that grave insecurity meant only a limited number of aid workers were able to operate within IDPs centre.

The Deputy Director said agency still needs 32 million US Dollars to meet immediate needs for the South Sudan crisis.
