Nimule women avoid HIV Test

Women in Nimule withdrew from HIV voluntary counselling and testing due to family members’ accusations and humiliations.
 
HIV Officer at Nimule Hospital Kidero Rose told Emmanuel Radio that women complain that husbands discriminated against and stigmatized those tested positive.
 
Ms Kidero said some men beat their wives for exposing their HIV status after voluntary counselling and testing. 
 
She said some women resorted to hide their HIV status after visiting VCT, fearing abuses and hush traditional beliefs.
 
The Officer said wives and husbands always suspect each other when one attend voluntary counselling and testing.
 
Ms Kidero said other husbands prefer going for HIV test and taking Anti-retroviral drugs without disclosing to their partners.
 
Ms Kidero said HIV AIDS infection was high in Nimule town among women between 25-45 years old. 
 
She attributed the high prevalence to a previous high turn up of women to voluntary counselling testing. 
 
Nimule HIV department reports indicated high trend of family partners hiding their HIV status.
 
In Torit town, men avoid voluntary HIV counselling and testing and prefer to know their status through pregnant women.
