Hundreds of Catholic Christians on Wednesday gathered at the Mausoleum of Fr Saturlino Ohure to pay tribute and marched to Our Lady of Assumption Church for Eucharistic celebration.
Torit Catholic Diocesan Pastoral Coordinator Camillo Afore asked Christians to celebrate the day with joy because the late Fr Saturlino offered his live for liberation cause, Emmanuel Radio reported.
He described the deceased as a man of faith who desired for peace in South Sudan.
Caritas Torit, Programme Manager Cyprian Okuye Atar narrated a brief life history of the late Fr Ohure and his encounters with Sudanese forces in Yei.
He said the late Fr Saturlino Ohure, one of the first priests of Torit was born to Hilangi and Ihinom of Loronyo village in Torit County.
The Manager added that the late Fr Ohure was ordained a priest in Gulu Catholic Diocese of Uganda and declined to become a Bishop and opted for the liberation struggle of South Sudanese.
Ugandan forces murdered Fr Saturlino in 1967 while on a mission in Kitgum.
