Tribalism and thinking along tribal lines destroy national sovereignty and create instability.

This was the view of the Council of States’ Deputy Speaker Remy Oler who led the national Crisis Management Committee team to Eastern Equatoria, Emmanuel Radio reported.

He analyzed that women, children and the elderly are the most vulnerable people in the country.

The Deputy Speaker noted that the conflict also claimed lives of young people who were deceived on tribal lines to take up arms against one another.

He lamented that recently over 200 people lost their lives when a boat in Malakal sank and some were drowned while crossing the Nile.

The Senator added that other victims walked to Uganda for safety.

The Deputy Speaker called for an end to killing of innocent people.

He doubted the destiny of South Sudan if citizens consider ethnic groupings more important than the national identity.

The Deputy Speaker  said ethnic conflict wiped away peace dividends that citizens of South Sudan expected to enjoy after 50 years of struggle for freedom.

He condemned the attitude of agitating conflict, saying those killed voted in 2010 general elections without considering tribes.

Council of States’ Deputy Speaker Remy Oler called on political leaders to exercise democratic rights to challenge other competitors in the next general elections.
