The Council of Ministers on Friday approved the postponement of South Sudan Secondary Schools’ exams from March to June due to insecurity and displacement in the country.
Government Spokesperson Michael Makuei Lueth told journalists after cabinet sitting that the adjournment would allow government to trace the whereabouts of displaced candidates and establish new exams centres.
Mr Makuei lamented that most students moved to neighbouring countries and states and that assembling them for the national exams was a real task.
The Spokesperson wondered how the traumatized candidates would prepare to sit for the exams.
He said the government would provide relief assistance including food and non-food items to Unity, Jonglei and Upper Nile States devastated by fighting.
The spokesperson lamented that Unity Governor was left homeless to the extent of sleeping in the single car in the state.
Fighting is continuing while the cabinet plans to assist and rehabilitate destroyed states.
