University of Bahr el Ghazal hostel girls staged a peaceful protest calling for an end to restrictive regulations at the campus.
A group of girls were intercepted at the hostel gate on Thursday night for late coming, Voice of Hope reported.
Justa Thomas hostel girls’ students representative on Friday morning said the university administration interfered with their rights.
She attributed late coming for most of the ladies to lack of food in the hostel and that arrival time at the hostel should be extended from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM
Ms Thomas blamed University Student Affairs Office for insisting that girls should refrain from dressing miniskirts and trousers.
She said dressing code was not relevant to University students.
Bahr El Ghazal University Dean of Students’ Affairs Stephen Gum said the administration wanted to ensure the safety of girls according to regulations.
He said most girls in the hostel do not portray good learning behaviour.
Mr Gum said the dressing code for ladies was the policy of the state and that the University was only implementing the demand of the state authorities.
The Dean ruled out that those girls who will not conform to University regulations would be asked to quit the hostel.
