Yambio celebrates World Toilet Day

Directorate of Water and Sanitation of the Physical Infrastructures Ministry in Western Equatoria on Tuesday celebrated World Toilet Day in Yambio under the theme: ‘Sanitation is dignity’.
 
State Water and Sanitation Director Daniel Bando Hezekia said the celebration was postponed in November due to some problems, Anisa Radio reported.
 
He advised people to always wash their hands with soap and clean water after visiting the toilet and carefully maintain and use their latrines properly.
 
The Director urged all households to have pit latrines to avoid open defecation and teach the children on clean environment.
 
UNICEF representative Steward Kutiote urged citizens to prevent themselves from diseases.
 
He added that many people were suffering because of dirty and unsafe environment.
 
Yambio County Education officer William Hezekiah Murangi said the state Education ministry directed all schools to have separate pit latrines for boys and girls.
 
He clarified that hygiene and sanitation were not only about toilet but clean environment more especially in markets and other public places.
