Eastern Equatoria state on Tuesday joined the world in celebrating the Human Rights Day under the theme: ’20 fighting for our human rights.’
The event marked the end of the 16 days of activism against sexual and gender-based violence, Emmanuel Radio reported.
State Deputy Governor Jerome Surur Gama called on the people to respect human rights, widows and people with disability.
He criticized some communities that neglect women to own property including land.
Deputy Governor Surur called for forgiveness, transparency and accountability for South Sudan to develop.
He encouraged civil society organizations to maintain the policy of the late Dr John Garang of monitoring transparency in the government.
State Education minister Michael Lopuke Lotyam condemned blood compensation with a girl child.
He described the compensation as child right abuse.
