Mortality rates in refugee camps of Unity and Upper Nile states have fallen steadily since June when they reached a worrying pike.

Both the crude mortality rate ‚Äì which refers to all causes of death among all groups ‚Äì and the mortality rate for children under five are now at the normal level for a settled population according to international indictors, UNOCHA said.

Improved water and sanitation services and better case management, early diagnosis and treatment of illnesses curbed the hike in mortality rates at refugee camps.

Unity and Upper Nile camps host over 76 thousand refugees from South Kordofan and 122 thousand from Blue Nile.
