UNOCHA, Government launch 1.1 billion dollars appeal

United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs or UNOCHA and the Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Welfare, Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management on Thursday launched 1.1 billion US dollars consolidated appeal for funding from donors.
 
OCHA Coordinator Toby Lanzer said the 2014-2016 appeal would cater for food security, health, education, water, sanitation and mine actions in South Sudan.
 
He added that the three-year strategic plan appeal came after careful assessment by humanitarian partners operating in the country.
 
Foreign Minister Barnaba Marial Benjamin who represented Gender Minister Awut Deng Acuil said government was supporting the appeal to improve people’s livelihood from natural disasters.
 
He added that the appeal also targets long term development projects for the betterment of South Sudan.
 
Dr Marial said the appeal was crucial for all citizens suffering in South Sudan including Abyei area.
