Fuel prices will return to normal as authority put up measures to counter abrupt shortages at petrol stations and prices hike.

Fuel stations in Juba on Tuesday were shut down after the Governor of South Sudan Central Bank put the exchange rate of 4.50 South Sudanese Pounds for one US Dollar, Bakhita Radio reported.

Juba City Mayor Christopher Sarafino Wani told the press that the Council authority summoned all petrol station owners in Juba to respond to the central bank announcement.

The Mayor added that the leadership of city council and the petrol owners resolved that operations and fuel prices should come back to normal.

Mr Sarafino said the decision was taken by the government and there was hope that everything would be normal.

He said petrol station owners agreed to open and sell petrol and diesel at normal prices.

The Mayor said they also agreed to give priority to public transportation and water tanker operators.

Juba Mayor said they also agreed not to allow the fuel be sold in bulk to individuals or in jarricans.
