The National Legislative Assembly is summoning the Central Bank Governor and Finance Minister on Wednesday to explain why the official dollar exchange rate against South Sudanese Pounds went from 2.49 to 4.5.
Deputy Speaker Mark Nyipuoc quoted the Transitional Constitution that empowers the assembly to summon Central Bank Governor Cornelio Koryom and Finance Minister Aggrey Tisa Sabuni urgently.
The ruling followed a point of information on an urgent rise in dollar exchange rate by MP Reich Moth Dak of Upper Nile State.
Five legislators seconded the ruling adding more information.
MP Reich moved the parliament to summon Governor Koryom for failing to stabilize exchange rate market and introducing new rates.
MP James Lual added that he learnt of the new policy of the rate increase and that there was a plan underway to auction dollars.
He pointed out that such a plan was an ill-intention to impeach the government.
MP Odongi Ayalu Tulio lamented that the policy was undermining the national budget and the fiscal policy of the country approved by the National Legislature.
The Parliamentary Economy, Finance and Development Committee sat for an urgent meeting after the session to discuss the Central Bank Governor’s circular on increasing currencies exchange rates ahead of the summon on Wednesday.
