The number of primary and secondary girls’ dropout drastically increased in Central Equatoria.

State Service Committee chairperson Pita Esther said they discovered that from 2005 to 2012 3,418 girls dropped out in primary four to eight and 476 girls in secondary schools, Easter Radio reported.

She added that the number is very big and important for the Girl Child Bill to be enacted into law to regulate girls’ education.

The officer cited poverty, late enrolment, early and forced marriages and cultural practices as major causes of girls’ dropouts in the six counties of the state.

The State Service Committee chairperson is touring the six counties of Central Equatoria State to conduct a public hearing on the girl child education.

Community Empowerment for Progress Organization is expected to organize the public hearing on girl child education in collaboration with Central Equatoria ministry of Education.
