The Council of Ministers regulated the payment of post-service benefits to constitutional post holders serving at state level.

Government spokesperson Michael Makuei Lueth told the press at the end of Friday’s ordinary cabinet sitting that state officials appointed by the President of the Republic receive their retirement pension from the national government.

He added that the states have to pay the pensions of those appointed by state governments after the election of 2010, including governors, deputies, ministers, state MPs and heads of commissions.

Mr Makuei said the Council of Ministers instructed the Public Service Ministry to speed up the pensions scheme in order to allow older civil servants to retire and take in officials familiar new technologies.
