Alternative education instructors went on strike over salaries and left 4,000 learners stranded in Eastern Equatoria state.

The instructors declined to teach due to Education Ministry’s failure to pay their salaries for the past two months, Emmanuel Radio reported.

Director General in the state ministry of Education Adelio Quinto said the ministry refused to pay the salaries before determining the existence of the instructors.

He disclosed that the County Education Commissioner declined to avail the number of instructors in their respective areas.

Mr Quinto said some of the names in the payroll were of non existent persons and others were not teachers.

The Director General noted that the instructors needed to be qualified teachers to provide adequate knowledge for the learners.

He said the four-year basic primary school study aimed at preparing learners for secondary education.
