Vice President launches polio immunization

The Vice President of the Republic on Thursday launched polio immunization campaign in Juba following reports of outbreak in Eastern Equatoria and Northern Bahr El Ghazal States.
 
James Wani Igga said the government launched polio vaccination to cover many parts of the country to be followed by three nation-wide polio campaigns to stop transmission of the virus, Bakhita Radio reported.
 
He said the vaccination was the only way to protect children from polio effects including permanent paralysis and death.
 
The National Health Minister Riek Gai Kok said there were three cases of wild polio outbreak in the country since the disease broke out at neighbouring countries.
 
He expressed hope to stop polio from spreading with the support, determination and dedication of health workers across the country.
 
Central Equatoria State Governor Clement Wani Konga urged all people across the ten states to cooperate with the vaccinators.
