CEPO trains Local Government members

Community Empowerment for Progress Organizations or CEPO in collaboration with Justice Africa on Monday started a three-day workshop in Juba to educate Local Government members on their role.
 
CEPO Executive Director Edmond Yakani said they are establishing with Central Equatoria, a system to define the state revenue, proper management and collection to reduce corruption, Bakhita Radio reported.
 
He said CEPO was working to ensure that Local Government is a functional, transparent institution and accountable to people.
 
Mr Yakani said last month they trained executive directors on financial standard and Local Government Act in Rumbek, Lakes State.
 
The Executive Director disclosed that next month they will conduct a ‘good governance forum’ in Rumbek to identify positive role players in Local Government.
 
Local Government Board member Nicodemo Arouman said their work plan was ready for approval and implementation.
 
He said they will start establishing Local Government institutions by drawing boundaries of councils at the county level.
 
Mr Arouman said they will ask the President to approve the warrant of establishing counties.
 
He disclosed a plan to conduct Local Government elections at counties and municipalities.
 
Mr Arouman stressed the need for all South Sudanese to understand Local Government functions.
 
The workshop brought together civil society organizations from Greater Equatoria Bahr El Ghazal and Upper Nile, States.
