UNMISS assists states local authorities

The United Nations Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS is assisting local authorities in flood affected areas due to recent torrential rains that damaged infrastructure especially roads and bridges in the country. 
 
UNMISS Korean Engineering Company built dikes along the River Nile and fortified banks of the Nile to deter further floods and contain rising water in Bor, Jonglei state. 
 
In Bentiu, Unity state UNMISS Mongolian Engineering Company completed the construction of a six-meter pedestrian bridge. 
 
UNMISS provided a helicopter for health assessment in heavy flooded areas of Maiwut County, Upper Nile state. 
 
The Mission provided helicopters for local authorities to assess flood victims needs in Aweil-Gok Macher of Northern Bahr El Ghazal.
 
In Juba, Central Equatoria, 30 engineers from Bangladesh Engineering Company, using excavators and other heavy duty equipment rehabilitated the road between Customs and the UN House in Jebel area.
