Security organs and police force arrested seven people suspected of killing Nimule Payam paramount chief on Sunday night.
Unknown gunmen shot three bullets at the chest of George Ajugo Livio and two others on his head in Nimule Magwi County of Eastern Equatoria state on his way home, Emmanuel Radio reported.
Eastern Equatoria minister for Local Government, Law Enforcement and Wildlife Conservation, Charles Lokonoi confirmed the arrest of suspects.
He told the press that the suspects who called themselves members of ‘Nimule land lease committee’ are residents of the area and that one of them escaped to Uganda.
Minister Lokonoi pointed out that one was identified as SPLA first Lieutenant at the general headquarters in Juba.
He said the deceased chief on two occasions reported to the security that his life was under threat but the matter was not taken seriously until his death.
Minister Lokonoi urged citizens to desist from unlawful acts and allow the government to investigate the matter.
