SINO Hydro Cooperation limited, a Chinese company and South Sudan Tungsten Company are expected to supply Eastern Equatoria state with electricity.
Physical Infrastructure ministry Director of Electricity Leone Kale told Emmanuel Radio that the two companies will relieve the state from power shortage.
He said the state government and the Chinese company signed an agreement for the construction of three megawatts power plant on Kineti River.
Mr Kale said the power plant at Hatire costs 27 Million US Dollars.
He disclosed that the company already started assembling equipments at the construction site.
Tungsten Company South Sudan planned to provide 30 kilowatts of electricity to all eight counties of Eastern Equatoria.
Mr Kale said the state witnessed darkness for two years due to lack of money to buy fuel as result of austerity measures.
He said Torit town has high power demand but the government generator had low capacity and could supply only 20 percent of the consumers.
The Director also cited increasing fuel prices as one of the challenges facing sustainability of power generation in the state.
Director Kale said lack of sustainable power was responsible for slow development of the private sector and limited business opportunities in Torit town.
Chinese EXIM Bank last year signed an agreement with the state to fund the power project.
