National Government and Chinese New Era Group Corporation on Friday signed twelve-month contract for the construction of Lobonok-Magwi road to the tune of 36 million South Sudanese Pounds.
Transport, Roads and Bridges’ Undersecretary Gabriel Makur Amour told the press that the 89-kilometre road funded by the World Bank is one of the five roads meant to boost rural agriculture.
He said Chinese New Era Group Corporation won the bid based on its capabilities.
Mr Makur added that it was the policy of government to take towns to people.
Economic and Commercial counsellor in the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China Zhang Yi said road construction was the base of South Sudan development.
He instructed the company to hire, train local labour and cooperate with local communities to build a good image of China and improve relations with South Sudan.
The transport ministry plans to construct Tali-Awerial, Tali-Yirol roads in the future.
