A woman found a two-month old baby boy abandoned at the Presidential palace call J1 in Juba.

A prison warden second lieutenant Jamila Nyawang told the press on Monday that she found the baby abondoned at the gate and no one around.

She said she picked up the baby and called a man at the street to help her take the baby to the nearby police station.

She explained that the police at the station entrusted her to take care of the baby until the mother appears.

The Director-General in the national Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Welfare Regina Ossa Lullo confirmed the incident.

She said the ministry referred the abandoned baby to the state ministry of Social Development for care.

Ms Ossa said it was their responsibility to protect children.

She lamented that she did not understand the cause of abandoning the baby.

The mother of the abandoned child identified as Rita later appeared and claimed to have left the baby because her husband a presidential bodyguard abandoned her without assistance.
