The President of the Republic put several army generals under investigation for alleged human rights abuses in Pibor County of Jonglei state.
Salva Kiir Mayardit told his cabinet during the swearing in of his vice James Wani Igga on Sunday that he would not tolerate commanders’ abuses in Jonglei.
“Some of the generals are already under investigation, they will pay for whatever crimes they have committed”, said the President.
Last week President Kiir ordered the arrest of James Otong, a general in charge of the army operations in Pibor country for the alleged killing of civilians by soldiers under his command.
International community voiced concern over human rights abuses in Jonglei state.
