A one-day old stolen baby was found on Tuesday and returned to the mother in Yambio State Hospital of Western Equatoria.

Security organs arrested the suspect while trying to escape with the baby on boda-boda and handed her over to the police headquarters, Anisa Radio reported.

Yambio County Police Chief Inspector Isaac Chol condemned the crime saying it was the first of its kind in the State.

The Medical director at the hospital Ismail Galla said the suspect pretended to be a caretaker of one of the patients in the maternity ward, deceived the mother and stole the baby while duty staff was resting.

He complained that Yambio State hospital is always crowded without fence and a police officer to control the security in the hospital.

The mother of the baby Jenty said the woman took with her a stereoscope, a book and other instruments pretending to be a nurse on patrol.

She said the thief claimed that something was wrong with the baby and wanted to be taken to another room for treatment and finally the baby was lost.
