Western Bahr El Ghazal Governor urged the Abyei community in the state to focus more on the referendum expected in October than wasting time on political campaigns.
Abyei community on Saturday protested against letters with Riek Machar portrait along Wau streets recommending him as a true alternative for South Sudan.
The letters read: ‘why accusing Deng Alor for corruption if that is the case, Dr. Riek Machar is a true alternative for the Republic leadership Abyei youth group’.
Rizik Zachariah Hassan told Abyei community that time to vote in the referendum is near.
He mentioned that the community should start referendum preparation and the state government will help the registration process.
Governor Zachariah pointed out that the priority for the people of Abyei at the moment is referendum not elections and political propagandas.
Mr Zachariah explained that SPLM knows who to select after preparing its Constitution and Manifesto.
He pointed out that the convention might not recommend Riek Machar as its candidate because of his bad history.
Mr Zachariah said it is too early for South Sudan to embrace liberal Western democracy which took America nearly 300 years.
Abyei community protesters burned Machar portrait at the state secretariat.
