The Speakers’ Forum was an opportunity for the participants to address the challenges facing each legislative assembly in South Sudan.
Parliamentary Affairs Undersecretary Gabriel Deng said in a statement on Thursday that ‘the three-day forum provided an excellent opportunity for Speakers, Governors and Ministers of Parliamentary Affairs at the national and state level to meet and address the challenges facing each legislative assembly in South Sudan.’
He added that the governors attending the Sixth Speakers’ Forum ‘welcomed the opportunity to air their differences with their federal counterparts.’
Some governors argued that the system to distribute the same amount of money to each state was not fair especially for the poorer areas that lack infrastructure.
Mr Deng underlined that the governors asked for more money and power from the central government.
Politicians from Kenya and Botswana assisted the participants with some advice.
They urged the Government to have the Permanent Constitution in place before the 2015 general elections.
