Yei River County Information Inspector Thursday said many unlawful contracts affected employees in Yei.
Ephraim Jomo Michael told Easter Radio that most private institutions in Yei operate with unwritten contracts and those written did go through the labour office and do not reflect the Labour Act.
He said there are many complaints due to verbal contracts.
When a teacher is terminated he or she does not have a contract copy at hand.
Mr Jomo urged the private sector especially educational institutions to take the Labour Act seriously and employee people with written contracts.
The Inspector told employees not to accept verbal contracts.
He explained that a contract should have three copies: one to the employee, one to employer and one to the County Labour office.
Mr Jomo said employee contract termination should include an explanation letter, a warning letter, disciplinary sitting and Labour office notification.
