Central Equatoria agriculture minister demanded that the currently cigarette factory in Yei changed into food factory due to bad effects of tobacco to human health.

Michael Roberto told the press on Thursday in Juba that the money that goes to cigarettes was better used in education and health services.

He said the tobacco business is selfish because of its limited consumers.

The minister appealed to the farmers in the state and the country to prioritize food crops production.

South Sudan Carnak Cigarette Factory general-manager Jean Pierre Samputu said many countries in the world still grow tobacco despite its side effects.

Mr Piere said tobacco is surrounded by different controversies not only in South Sudan but the whole world.
