An umbrella human rights called on President of the Republic to respect the Constitution and the election for a new Unity State Governor within 60 days.

South Sudan Human Rights Society for Advocacy said in a press statement issued on Wednesday that Salva Kiir Mayardit has to ensure that the National Elections Commission is fully funded and functional to organize the vote.

The Society was reacting to the removal of Unity State Governor Taban Deng Gai on July 7.

The Society called on President Kiir to show reasons to the public why he removed the elected Governor claiming that the removal had no connection with the Constitution Article cited in the republican decree.

It called on the National Minister of Justice and Chief Justice to rise up and protect the letter and spirit of the Constitution.

‘The supreme law is being attacked at day light and it is within your Mandate to protect the Constitution’, the Society said.

It appealed to the Chief Justice to protect the Constitution by peacefully resisting any violation of it.
