Youths launched a cleaning exercise to rid Torit of rubbish ahead of the celebration of the second anniversary of independence.
The cleaning exercise, led by the president of Eastern Equatoria state Youth Union, Epone Emmanuel Lolimo, removed several truck loads of garbage from the main market and other parts of Torit, Emmanuel Radio reported.
Mr Lolimo told journalists that the exercise aimed at making Torit clean before the celebration of the second anniversary of independence.
He noted that traders needed to be sensitized to keep Torit clean because waste from goods they sold were contaminating the area due to bad disposal management.
Mr Lolimo said the youth will liaise with Torit County authority to ensure that the town gets a cleanup every month.
He disclosed that the cleaning exercise launched on Friday continues to cover other parts of Torit including residential areas.
Eastern Equatoria education minister Michael Lopuke Lotyam joined the youth in the cleaning campaign.
Mr Lopuke chairs the steering committee that organizes the celebration of the second anniversary of independence.
He praised the youth for taking the lead in keeping the town clean for the Independence Day feast.
Local musician ‘Ayava G’ also joined the ‘Keep Torit Clean’ exercise.
