The new road connecting Baryar and Khor Malang in Jur River County of Western Bahr El Ghazal opened on Tuesday.
The seven-kilometre road was constructed by the Chinese group in UNMISS Wau Sector Two.Speaking during the opening ceremony, Chinese Battalion Commander, Huo Hongkai, said the Chinese engineering team fulfilled 100 projects to support the state government.
Colonel Hogkai added that the Chinese group put efforts to benefit the civilians in terms of offering services like roads.
He appreciated the role of the Chinese Engineering Company in helping and supporting Western Bahr el Ghazal Government.
Colonel Hogkai said new roads were the top priority for the locals to access the town and respond to their needs.
He added that the Chinese Battalion is contributing to the prosperity of South Sudan particularly in Western Bahr el Ghazal State.
He said the relations between China and South Sudan will be long lasting.
UN state coordinator in Western Bahr el Ghazal, Winny Babi-Huga, explained the importance of the new road.
She said the seven-kilometre road will increase economic viability to the people of Jur River County.
Jur River County Commissioner John Arop Apai said the Baryar road will ease the movement as citizens to Wau passing through Zagalona.
He said the new road is a way of implementing the policy to take the town to the people.
Mr. Arop said his community asked for more roads in the county to connect the rural areas to Wau as a way to promote the spirit of urbanization.
