CONFLICTS, CATTLE RAIDS UNDERDEVELOPMENT SOURCES

Conflicts and cattle raids are the main sources of underdevelopment of South Sudan.

This is the view Eastern Equatoria state deputy Governor Jerome Surur Gama expressed on Wednesday during the celebration of UN Peacekeepers Day in Torit, Emmanuel Radio reported.

He said conflicts and cattle raiding could only be eliminated by improving standards of living and service delivery.

Mr Surur said he would reject a gift of a cow and would prefer to eat greens as the animals became a cause of conflict instead of development.

The deputy governor said South Sudan faces challenges of transition from colonial rule.

Mr Surur urged citizens to get involved in peace building instead of leaving the burden to the UN peacekeepers.

He condemned the use of the internet for transmitting distorted information which is fuelling conflict in the state and the country.
