Medicines Sans Frontiers or MSF vaccinated over 130 thousand people against meningitis in the Upper Nile state in collaboration with the national Ministry of Health.
MSF emergency medical coordinator Olympia de la Rosa said medical teams deployed in the northern city of Malakal immunized 133,633 since mid May.In press statement issued on Thursday, she said the vaccine protects people from meningitis A for ten years.
Since early April, 141 cases were reported and seven people died in Upper Nile.
Ms De la Rosa disclosed that the national Health ministry is planning to vaccinate the whole population by 2014 against meningitis A.
