Greater Bahr El Ghazal is holding an inter-governmental dialogue to resolve issues of increasing number of street children in the urban areas of the region.
States ministries of Social Development of Northern and Western Bahr El Ghazal, Warrap and Lakes are joining hands to combat children’s influx into the streets, Voice of Hope reported.Western Bahr El Ghazal minister for Youth and Sports, Arkangelo Anyar Anyar, said the dialogue will address the challenges and alarming problems of street children.
He said the dialogue aims at putting an end to the miserable condition of street children.
Mr Anyar stressed that the dialogue is expected to come up with effective approaches on how to handle the issues of street kids.
He said street children are making streets unfriendly and the dialogue should devise a possible solution to be implemented.
The dialogue drew street children participants and social development ministries delegates.
Most street children especially in Wau sleep under verandas, inhale rubber solutions, collect empty water battles for re-sale and feed on restaurants food remnants for daily survival.
National Democratic Institute or NDI funded the dialogue.
