The Government takes human rights abuses very seriously and approved a package of eight key conventions passed by the UN and the AU.
Amnesty International on Thursday said on its annual report on South Sudan that the organized forces continue to commit human rights violations “with relative impunity.”Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International issued a statement on Friday saying authorities failed to carry out adequate investigations into the killing of eight peaceful protesters last December in Wau by security forces.
Government spokesperson Barnaba Marial Benjamin told the press after Friday’s ordinary cabinet meeting that the Government takes human rights abuses very seriously and initiated a number of inquests.
He added that when the established committees conclude their investigations culprits will be brought to court.
Dr Marial said South Sudan cannot use jungle law because a citizen is innocent until he is proved guilty.
He added that some investigations take time but when they are concluded those found guilty will face the law.
Dr Marial said the Republic is committed to the international agreements it signed.
He added that the Cabinet approved eight human rights conventions passed by the United Nations and the African Union.
