The Government needs to come up with an internet governance policy that regulates the operation of providers in the country.
Civil society activist Edmond Yakani told the press in Juba that though internet is vital for communication it must be regulated to avoid unwanted interferences, Bakhita Radio reported.Mr Yakani said the Community Empowerment for Progress Organisation or CEPO is lobbying for assistance to help the government come up with an internet governance policy.
He added that CEPO is concerned with the need to table a private bill on internet governance in the National Legislative Assembly.
Mr Yakani said only two internet providers in the country are licensed and the sector needs to be regulated to avoid interferences.
He suggested that regulating internet would give the government room to monitor what is good or bad.
The activist added that the government must prepare a bill on the internet to crack down those who temper with the rights of users online.
Mr Yakani said CEPO in partnership with Internews had put in place 22 thousand Pounds and invited some experts that will help drafting the Internet Governance Bill.
He said after drafting the bill CEPO will submit the document to the Committee of Information and Communication of the National Assembly.
