South Sudan becomes a member state of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization or FAO next month.

FAO South Sudan head of office Sue Lautze broke the news on Thursday during the launch of the Agriculture and Food Information System.

She announced that Agriculture Minister Betty Achan Ogwaro goes to Rome in June for the occasion that allows South Sudan to tap into FAO’s rich experience.

Dr Lautze explained that by joining FAO South Sudan embraces the global commitment to eradicate hunger through food production, access and use.

She added that agriculture statistics are key to see hunger and food production.

In 2013, FAO asked over 40 million US dollars funding to help farmers, pastoralists and fishers in South Sudan to increase their food production and income through a wide range of activities.
