Central Equatoria teachers formed a union to coordinate their activities in the six counties of the state.
Teachers’ Union chairperson Peter Lodu told Bakhita Radio that teachers started forming the union in five counties and concluded with Juba County last week.He said the teacher’s representatives from the 16 Payam of Juba County gathered together to form the Teachers’ Union in Juba County.
Mr Lodu added that the formation of the union in Juba County will ease teachers’ functions in the state.
HeÊ said the committee elected 36 council members at the county level and 15 executive offices were elected with one chairperson and the deputy.
Mr Lodu said the committee will execute its duties without any interference from the political elite and summits reports to the state authorities.
Juba County Teachers’ Union new chairperson Levi Simba said the formation of the union was important because it united teachers and resolved teachers’ issues.
He said post-service benefits like promotions, incentive allowances, transport and accommodation were not being accorded to teachers.
Mr Simba added that the union would work hard to see that teachers benefited from their profession.
